TEC307 — Domestic Driveability II
TEC307 — Domestic Driveability II

2 days (16 hours)
*$439 U.S.
1.6 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) awarded

This workshop will concentrate on the most common driveability problems encountered on domestic vehicles.  The workshop is designed with a combination of classroom and hands on education.  In 2008, all vehicle manufacturers had to be CAN compliant, with this mandate the ‘generic’ scan tool data was enhanced greatly.  These enhancements will be covered in detail.  Technicians will learn to test the function of various engine management systems.  OBDII aftermarket test equipment is used to show the best procedures to test and repair.  Diagnosis of the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) top ten emissions related DTC’s will be discussed and system repairs will be performed in our state-of-the art service bays.  Analyze Mode 5, 6, 7, 8, data as they relate to OBD II diagnostics.  Explore the industry’s newest aftermarket test equipment and resources available for fast, efficient vehicle repair.

Prerequisite: Attendance of TEC304, TEC305 or TEC306 or ASE Certification in A-6 (Electrical/Electronics) or A-8 (Engine Performance).

After completing this workshop, the student will be able to:

  • Utilize NEW J1979 OBD II generic parameters for emissions related MIL failures.
  • Apply evaporative emissions testing strategies used on Ford vehicles for diagnostics of a DTC P0442 (small leak) and DTC 455 (large leak) using a smoke machine and Mode 8.
  • Examine strategy based diagnostics for ‘No Code’ driveability.
  • Diagnose a ‘No communication’ concern on a CAN equipped vehicle.
  • Verify 02 sensor operations through Mode 5 and the use of pin point testing with a lab scope.
  • Identify programming updates and re-flash GM vehicles.

* Tuition includes lunch, classroom materials, hotel lodging and transportation between the airport/hotel/TEC the evening prior to workshop date, and each full day through the duration of the course. For those not requiring a hotel room, please call 888-771-6005 or 314-512-8262 for discounted rates.
